Q: What do the abbreviations in the descriptions means, for example, AB S/L, SF, Tr?
A: Most abbreviations refer to a finish applied to the bead or describe the type of glass the bead is made from.
- S/L means Silver Lined - the center of the bead has a silver coating
- C/L means Colour Lined – you will see descriptions like Bronze lined Peridot, a green bead with a bronze coloured lining.
- Gilt Lined means a gold coloured lining.
- AB means Aurora Borealis – the finish gives off the colours of the northern lights (or a rainbow).
- SF means Satin Finish – the bead has a soft matte finish
- Tr means Transparent – you can see through the bead
- F/P means Fire Polished - once the bead has been formed (rounds, leaf, flower, cube etc.) the bead is heated to smooth the edges.
- M.C. means machine cut - the facets were made on a machine and have not been polished smooth.
Q: How do I know what size of needle to use?
A: Match your needle size to the bead size. Use a size 15 or 16 needle for size 15 beads
and size 10 or 11 needle for size 11 beads.
